First aid training gaps leave a third of workers at risk, charity warns

Not been on here for a while, but must mention this interesting survey by The St John Ambulance.   I quote:

The survey of UK workers found that nearly four in five (79%) employees care deeply about their colleagues’ wellbeing, but almost a third (29%) have experienced a workplace situation where no one present had the skills to provide first aid.

Despite this, nearly a quarter (22%) of the workforce has never received any first aid training, and among those who have, one in five (22%) last trained more than five years ago – raising concerns about skill fade and outdated knowledge.

The research also revealed the cultural willingness of employees to support colleagues in small everyday ways – such as helping with workloads, offering emotional support, or even making tea and coffee. Yet St John Ambulance points out that time invested in a single first aid course could be more impactful: the average employee spends the equivalent of three working days a year making drinks for others, far exceeding the time needed for accredited first aid training.  That's an amazing fact.

Employers definitely need to reflect on their first aid provision!
